The National Bighorn Sheep Interpretive Center's winter tours provide a wonderful opportunity to view wildlife on the winter range of the Whiskey Mountain Herd of Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep from November through March.

The tours start at 9:00 AM and can last up to 5 hours but average 3 to 4. Our four wheel drive vehicle seats 6 people. There is no minimum number. Binoculars and spotting scopes are provided. The use of these will greatly enhance your viewing opportunities. If you have a pair of binoculars that you are comfortable with, you are certainly welcome to use your own. Be sure to bring your camera. The longer the lens the better your photographs will be.

The Whiskey Mountain Habitat Area, the primary winter range of the bighorn sheep, is open wind-swept country. Dressing in layers is strongly advised, paying particular attention to head, hands and feet. You may wish to bring your own sack lunch and perhaps a hot beverage. There are several restaurants in Dubois that can also pack you a sack lunch.

Dubois is located in the snow shadow of the Wind River Range, and we have not yet had to cancel a tour because of bad weather. In fact, snowy weather at the higher elevations usually forces the bighorns to the lower elevations and means better viewing. If you have concerns, be sure to call.

The cost of the tour is $25.00 per person, regardless of age. Reservations are required twenty four hours in advance. We accept Master Card or Visa to hold your reservation.
